Restoration Care

Understand the stages before restoring a finish

A clean caravan can still have a dull finish. Washing removes dirt and film, while polishing, refining and sealing serve different purposes. Choosing the correct stage matters: a shampoo is not a polishing compound, and a sealer is not the starting point for every dull or damaged surface.

Silky Restore is the polishing compound described for older or previously compounded gelcoat. Fineshine follows as the gloss-refining stage for previously buffed and compounded plastics and paintwork. Superseal is the polymer sealing stage for suitable new or restored plastic and paint finishes. Dry Pro Plus provides final detailing for listed high-gloss finishes.

Start with a clean, identified surface

Before choosing a restoration product, establish the material and the condition of its finish. Dirt, localised staining and loss of gloss are not the same problem. Use the appropriate cleaning product first, then assess the clean surface before deciding whether polishing is required.

Restore’s directions call for a clean surface, shaking the bottle and testing an inconspicuous area. They allow hand application or a rotary polishing machine with an appropriate compounding pad. Work in small sections, following the label’s guidance on keeping the surface cool and removing residue. Do not assume that a machine is required simply because you are restoring gloss.

Refine, then protect

Fineshine is intended for previously buffed and compounded plastics and paintwork, producing the high-gloss finish ready for sealing or waxing. Its place after Restore helps explain why these products have separate roles. Follow the application guidance for small working sections, the appropriate pad and residue removal rather than treating both products as interchangeable polish.

Superseal follows the prepared finish. Its directions describe applying across the treatment area and buffing away the entire residue with a new or very clean microfibre cloth, working one large panel or two small panels at a time. Open the product page for the full method, including the specific guidance for residue in hot conditions.

Questions before you begin

Does every caravan need the complete sequence? No. These are different stages, not a requirement to use every product. A maintained finish may need cleaning only; the condition and intended surface determine whether restoration, refining or sealing is appropriate.

Can polishing fix every defect? This guide does not claim to repair cracks, peeling finishes or structural damage. If you cannot identify the coating or the nature of a defect, ask for advice before treatment. For final detailing after washing, Dry Pro Plus has its own directions and listed surfaces. Use the enquiry form to describe what you see and any earlier treatment.
