A practical post-storage deep-cleaning plan

When a caravan or motorhome returns from storage, the visible grime rarely tells the whole story. Large exterior panels can carry a mixture of film, dirt and marks gathered over time. The useful first step is not to assume that every mark needs polishing or a specialist stain remover. Begin with a thorough clean, then reassess the surface.

Silky Deep Cleaner Ready to Use is the convenient grime- and film-removing wash in the Silky range for de-wintering and mid-season cleaning. This article focuses on planning that job without confusing the ready-to-use product with the separate concentrate.

Inspect before washing

Walk around the vehicle before applying any product. Note areas of ordinary film, heavier build-up, localised staining and surfaces that look dull even where they are clean. Check seals, vents, trims and any areas where a previous coating or repair may change how the surface should be treated.

This short inspection prevents several different jobs being bundled together. Deep Cleaner addresses the cleaning stage. A persistent stain on white plastic or GRP may require the separate Silky Bright route, while a clean but weathered gelcoat may need restoration later.

Choose the correct Deep Cleaner format

Silky supplies Deep Cleaner as a Ready to Use wash and as a separate concentrate. They are distinct formats with their own current container directions. Do not copy a dilution from one pack to the other. For the Ready to Use product, follow the label on the container in your hand.

The Ready to Use format is positioned for areas of intense grime build-up and for washing away film during de-wintering or a mid-season deep clean. If you have the concentrate, use the dedicated Deep Cleaner Concentrate page and its pack instructions instead.

Work in manageable sections

Large caravan and motorhome panels are easier to assess when treated in sections. Read the current pack directions before beginning, keep track of where product has been applied and rinse as directed. Working systematically also makes it easier to see which marks disappear with the wash and which need separate investigation.

Pay particular attention to changes in material: painted panels, plastic fittings, windows, decals, seals and repaired areas may not all require the same follow-up. If the finish or compatibility is uncertain, pause and contact Silky Leisure before proceeding.

Reassess after the vehicle is clean

A deep clean should give you a clearer view of the condition beneath the grime. If the finish is already sound, routine care may continue with Silky Envirowash, the pH-neutral shampoo in the range. If older gelcoat remains dull, read the sequence beginning with Silky Restore.

Do not use polishing or sealing products to disguise remaining dirt. Cleaning, restoration and protection are separate stages. The overview in Choosing the right Silky product explains how those stages connect, while the product showcase provides the complete range and buying routes.
